One positive ETF day could not rescue the week. Market in Focus | 17 Oct 2026 Yesterday's ETH-led bounce made me less cautious on price, but I still wanted joint ETF inflows on Friday. That test failed: Farside reports $82.4m leaving US spot BTC funds and $69.7m leaving ETH funds on October 16. Across October 12-16, the two categories lost a net $548.5m. Tuesday was the only session when both attracted money. The brief return of buyers was real; it was too small to offset the rest of the week. Prices have also slipped below yesterday's snapshot. CoinGecko's 05:18 UTC updates put BTC near $81,541 and ETH at $2,426, down 0.76% and 0.83% over rolling 24 hours. ETH's rebound lead has faded. These returns cover a different window from the ETF flows and do not establish causality. For the next 24-72 hours, I want BTC and ETH to regain yesterday's roughly $82,115 and $2,461, with ETH keeping pace. Holding above those reference prices would improve the picture; continued weakness in both would reinforce caution. Fresh ETF confirmation must wait until US trading resumes. A weekend bounce alone cannot settle that question.
