Michael Saylor might be facing one of the biggest threats to Strategy’s Bitcoin Reports are circulating that Strategy ($MSTR) is set to be removed from MSCI indexes. MSCI is one of the world’s largest index providers The consultation closed on September 30. MSCI’s official decision was expected on October 16. Now, on October 15, reports claim Strategy will be excluded and Strategy has already publicly opposed it. Why is this such a problem for Michael Saylor? Its entire financial model revolves around accumulating more BTC. Here’s how it works (in simple terms for u) - Strategy holds Bitcoin. - Investors buy MSTR to gain exposure to its accumulation strategy. - When MSTR trades at a premium to the value of its underlying BTC, Strategy can raise capital on attractive terms. - That capital is used to purchase more Bitcoin. - The company attempts to increase Bitcoin exposure per share. - demand for MSTR helps sustain this model If Strategy is excluded from major indexes, funds tracking those indexes may be forced to sell MSTR. JPMorgan estimated $2.8 BILLION in potential MSTR selling from an MSCI exclusion. So basically no, we’re not necessarily talking about an immediate collapse. MSCI cannot force Strategy to sell a single BTC. And being removed from an MSCI index doesn’t mean MSTR gets delisted from Nasdaq (thank god man) I don’t think this means Strategy is about to collapse. And I certainly don’t think MSCI excluding MSTR would automatically send Bitcoin crashing. Now we need the official MSCI decision, the exact indexes affected and the implementation date.
