On October 31, a Bitcoin hard fork will occur. This is the eCash (ECX) fork, announced by Japanese exchanges, which implements Drivechain (BIP-300/301) developed by Paul Sztorc and LayerTwo Labs. The rules of Bitcoin itself will remain unchanged. Progress is as follows: Alpha version: Block height 963,648 (around August 23, 2026) → Completed (for practice) Beta version: Block height 967,680 (around September 19, 2026) → Completed (for practice, currently live) Mainnet (production): Block height approximately 973,728 (scheduled for around October 31, 2026) The design allocates 1 ECX for every 1 BTC held at the time of the mainnet launch. Coins issued during the alpha and beta phases are separate from those on the mainnet. Domestic exchanges (GMO Coin, bitFlyer, Zaif, etc.) have stated: “BTC deposits, withdrawals, and trading will continue as normal,” and “ECX distribution and support are undecided.” If you hold BTC on an exchange, you may not receive ECX unless the exchange explicitly supports it. This is distinct from the existing eCash (XEC).
