What if Bitcoin’s biggest security question became a race anyone could join? That’s the idea behind MemeBitcoin. Satoshi-era wallets hold an estimated 1.09M BTC, with their public keys exposed on-chain since Bitcoin’s early days. As quantum computing advances, the question is no longer just “𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐛𝐞 𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐝”? It’s also “𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐢𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐜𝐚𝐧?” @1096361BTC is turning that concern into a global experiment. Users can generate and test candidate keys, complete missions, contribute data and help build collective momentum around one objective: Reach Satoshi’s wallet before quantum computing does. And there’s a deeper layer. MBTC wants to create enough public pressure for those dormant coins to be moved somewhere safer before quantum hardware becomes capable of threatening them. The project has now raised $8M from Gemhead Capital, Archer Capital, M2M Capital and Mayer Venture, with over 23,700 users, 18,350 daily active users and 2.4M wallet decryption attempts as of late August. This makes MemeBitcoin less interesting as “𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐢𝐧” and more interesting as a Bitcoin security experiment disguised as a community game. The real question is: Will the community reach Satoshi’s wallet first, or will quantum computing force Bitcoin to confront the problem first?
