Crypto pioneer warns AI could trigger systemic shocks to banks and infrastructure Marc van der Chijs, co-founder of Bitcoin mining company Hut 8, warns that humanity has lost control over the pace of AI development. He argues that competition among companies and nations is pushing AI forward too rapidly, potentially causing severe disruptions to banking systems and critical infrastructure—such as exposing vulnerabilities in legacy banking software or exposing crypto exchanges to significant risk. Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, has issued similar warnings. Marc van der Chijs also predicts that AI and robots could replace 90 to 95 percent of current jobs, forcing governments to consider new revenue sources—such as taxing robots or charging AI usage fees. Despite shifting the majority of his capital from Bitcoin to AI, he still views Bitcoin as the most compelling long-term asset to hold.
