AI is beginning to consume America’s electrical infrastructure. Data centers could account for approximately 11.8% of total U.S. electricity consumption by 2030, not including pressure on water resources and grid upgrades. The more powerful AI becomes, the greater the demand for electricity, chips, and cooling—now the question is no longer just who has a better model. The AI race may be won by algorithms, but it could also be lost due to insufficient electricity to run them.
