🇵🇰 Pakistan’s strategic dilemma is becoming clearer. >90% of Pakistan’s LNG comes from Qatar, making the Strait of Hormuz critical to its energy security. And >90% of Pakistan’s total trade volume moves by sea. Meanwhile, major Pakistani exports to the US, UK, Spain and Italy rely on the Bab el-Mandeb–Red Sea–Suez route. 🇹🇷 Türkiye has far greater energy route diversification, and only around 15% of its oil supply has historically come from the Gulf. Now look at the Makkah Defense Agreement. Pakistan has to balance its commitment to Saudi Arabia against its vulnerability to BOTH the Strait of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb. Is that the real constraint? The geography tells a fascinating story.
