Anthropic just delayed the largest IPO in history to November. The reason is a feature, not a bug. The Claude maker was targeting October. It pushed to November to present Q3 numbers. That's the official line. The subtext is more interesting. • Target valuation: ~$2T (would top SpaceX's $1.78T record) • Raise target: $60B+ (SpaceX raised $86B) • Revenue run-rate (July): $65B, up from $14B in Feb 2026 • Year-end projection: 42B • Lead underwriters: Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan • Safety layer: Accenture named external auditor, $1B joint investment over 5 years The delay buys Anthropic two things: time to show Q3 numbers after OpenAI's Astra release, and a narrative reset around safety. CEO Dario Amodei publicly called for an industry-wide slowdown. That spooked some investors. But Anthropic's backers are framing it as a governance moat: a company that self-regulates before regulators do. Accenture's role as external evaluator with direct model access is the first concrete step. The real risk isn't the delay. It's liquidity. OpenAI is targeting a $1.2T valuation and could absorb significant market demand before Anthropic lists. Is the November delay a sign of strength or a sign of nerves and does the safety-first narrative help or hurt the valuation?
