Market Watch | Sep. 18 (ET) 1/3 — Market Structure S&P 500 +0.17%, Nasdaq +0.39%, Dow -0.18%, Russell 2000 about -0.5%. The SOX semiconductor index climbed about 2.8%. Friday's small index gains hid a split market: most S&P 500 stocks fell, and small caps lost ground even as semiconductors rallied. The S&P 500 still finished the week slightly lower; Thursday's broad relief did not fully carry through. The central tension was leadership versus financing pressure. The 10Y Treasury yield returned to 5.00% from about 4.94%, while Brent settled at $103.87 after briefly dipping below $102. Chips and a handful of crypto-linked equities kept the indexes afloat, but the higher yield and uneven breadth argued against calling it a broad risk-on day.
