What If a Smart Contract Could Use a Normal Web API Directly? A huge amount of useful information already exists on the web. Shipping systems, payment providers, weather services, marketplaces, databases and thousands of other services expose their data through APIs. The problem is that smart contracts traditionally can’t interact with those services the way normal applications do. So developers often need another layer in the middle: fetch the external information somewhere else, bring the result onchain then let the contract respond. This is one of the areas where Rialo’s approach gets interesting. Instead of treating the blockchain and the outside web as completely separate environments Rialo is being designed around applications that can interact with real-world services and react to external information as part of their workflows. Imagine a simple shipping application: Order created → Check carrier API → Shipment delivered → Update state → Release payment The carrier already knows when the package arrived. The interesting part is making that external information useful to the application without turning the whole experience into a pile of disconnected infrastructure. And once you think beyond shipping, the design space gets much larger payments, commerce, logistics, AI agents, subscriptions and applications that coordinate with existing internet services.
