Saturday reset ☕️ Letting the thesis breathe when headlines get loud Headlines don’t take a weekend off. They just change clothes. One week it’s rates and currencies. Next it’s wars, tariffs, an AI debate, commodities ripping or slipping, crypto waking up, some new narrative or piece of psychological bait. The volume stays high even when the facts haven’t actually changed that much. I’ve learned the hard way that the first reaction is rarely the useful one. A thesis that was built on catalysts and improving financials doesn’t suddenly become worthless because the noise got louder for a few days. Most of the time it just needs room to breathe. That doesn’t mean ignore what’s happening. It means not letting every swing in the tape rewrite the whole story overnight. Rebalance when the process says so. Cut when the thesis is actually broken. Otherwise let it work or fail on its own timeline, not the headlines. A lot of individual portfolios, including my own, have had to wade through all that noise; pre-war and then as the war started getting priced into the markets, unless it gets even worse from here. Seemingly there’s been a decent chance, with markets working their way back up, that many of us have now set new YTD highs. Just another stretch that has proven, over time, that letting the thesis breathe is better than overreacting to headlines that get loud. Thirty-plus years in, my costly mistakes usually came from choking a good idea too early or falling in love with a bad one too long. The better habit has been simpler: give the idea air, stay honest about whether it still fits, and keep the rest of life from being owned by the screen while you wait. Letting the thesis breathe is part of staying balanced. It’s also how you avoid becoming another voice in the noise. Hope the weekend gives you a bit of quiet to think for yourself.
