An Indian billionaire launches a ₹10 ice cream. And the internet starts asking: Why aren’t Indian billionaires building the next OpenAI or SpaceX? Fair question. But the bigger question is: what does India reward capital for building? Reliance has already shown what happens when you combine low pricing with massive distribution through Jio and Campa. Now it is doing the same in ice cream. That doesn’t mean Indian billionaires lack ambition. It means consumer businesses with predictable cash flows, huge markets and proven distribution can offer a very different risk-reward equation from a decade long deep-tech moonshot. And Reliance is hardly only doing FMCG. Jio’s AI/cloud infrastructure, 5G and its massive new energy bets are capital-intensive bets too. Maybe the real problem isn’t that Indian billionaires think too small. Maybe India’s incentives still make selling to 1 billion consumers easier to justify than building something that may take 15 years to work. #India #Reliance #Business #Entrepreneurship
