Yo yo. Little state of the union blurb. It's september 1st. The last ~2 months have been brutally choppy and terrible. High beta growth names have been slapped around...some down -25%ish. But we've seen this story before...feels like it happens monthly at this point. Overall markets can't pick a direction. Retail favorites get temporarily smoked. Everyone is seeing some red. Certain folks panicking. But the question is always: what's changed?? Like has anything meaningfully changed at the macro level, or in technology, or earnings? Not really...if anything, it's gotten more exciting. So what's happening rn? Well. Summer is always choppy/boring. September holds jobs report, inflation read, fed mtg (all in next 2wks). BUT...earnings are still screaming growth. AI capex spend is not slowing. Midterms pump can come. Crypto is looking like it wants to heat back up, which can light growth back up. Q4 is historically strong. To me, there is no fundamental break of the growth story. I believe that. There is still external factors on the minds of investors (rates, oil, conflict), but it's pretty tough to derail a [ai] freight train after it gets moving. I'd encourage you to take a look at a couple of monthly charts tonight. Not trying to be the "zoom out and all is good" guy, but it's pretty eye opening and a good reminder of where a stock actually is in the big picture. Sooo., use this *boring* time to add to long term positions you love, manage core positions, and crank back the active trading for a bit. Because when the market heats back up (and it will soon), you have the confidence & capital to join in the fun. Gn gn.
