Why I Still Think Spot Trading Is the Best Place to Start in Crypto Crypto trading often gets presented as something extremely complicated. Leverage. Longs. Shorts. Liquidations. Margin. Complex strategies. There is nothing wrong with learning about these tools, but personally, I think the industry sometimes focuses too much on complexity and not enough on the basics. That is why I found Cronos Learn’s article about spot trading particularly relevant. 👉 https://t.co/wXlvtAkCNK My view is simple: if you don't understand spot trading, you probably shouldn't be rushing into leveraged products. Spot trading is straightforward. You buy an asset at the current market price and you own it. If the asset increases in value, your position becomes more valuable. If it falls, your position loses value. There is no liquidation price sitting over your head and no leverage multiplying every move. That doesn't make spot trading risk free. Crypto can still be extremely volatile, and an asset can lose a significant amount of its value. But I believe the risk is much easier to understand. And understanding risk is one of the most important parts of trading. What I particularly agree with in the Cronos Learn article is the idea that learning how prices move should come before adding leverage. It sounds obvious, but it is surprisingly easy to forget. If someone struggles with deciding when to enter, when to exit, how much capital to allocate, or how they react emotionally when the market suddenly drops, adding leverage won't solve those problems. It can make them considerably worse. I also think there is another important lesson here: spot trading shouldn't automatically be considered something only beginners do. Even experienced traders can use spot positions because sometimes the simplest strategy is the one that makes the most sense. For me, the biggest advantage of starting with spot is that it forces you to focus on the fundamentals. Why am I buying this asset? What is my timeframe? How much am I willing to risk? What would make me change my mind? Those questions are far more important than knowing how to use every trading feature available. Crypto will continue to become more sophisticated, and that's a good thing. More financial tools can create more opportunities. But sophistication shouldn't be confused with complexity. Before trying to master advanced trading, I believe there is real value in mastering the basics first. And spot trading is probably the best place to start. @CronosApp
