Let me explain why green roofs are not feasible in Turkey. Just because they work in Norway doesn’t mean they’ll work here—that’s mistaking geography for decoration. There, sod roofs aren’t decorative; they’re a heavy, evolved solution adapted to humid air, wooden structures, and low seismic risk. In winter, snow significantly increases the load on the roof. In Turkey, the same weight doesn’t perform the same function everywhere: the Black Sea region is humid, Central and Eastern regions are dry, and the south is prone to fire. Plus, there’s TBDY: additional roof load directly transfers to structural elements and amplifies seismic forces. Grass grows in the wrong place, and the structure is overstressed. If we’re going to do it, the solution isn’t a copycat sod roof—it’s a lightweight, insulated, root-resistant green roof. We don’t import an aesthetically pleasing look; we solve for load, climate, and risk together.
