A drop in price doesn’t mean the project is dead; a rise in price doesn’t mean the project is successful. Someone once said in a group: “This coin has crashed so hard—the team must be useless, get out now.” Meanwhile, someone else said: “This coin keeps rising every day—the project must have real value, jump in now.” These two statements are opposite in direction. But they make the same mistake: Using price as a verdict on fundamentals. Price is certainly important. It reflects capital sentiment, token distribution, and market expectations. But all it tells you is whether people are buying or selling right now—it doesn’t directly tell you whether the project is actually valuable. A legitimate project can still get crushed due to a market-wide downturn, large token unlocks, or early investors exiting. A project with nothing substantial can still spike with low float, high manipulation, and a few rounds of pump messages, creating a candlestick that makes you question reality. A red candle doesn’t automatically prove the team is fraudulent. A green candle doesn’t award the project a certificate of excellence. When a crash happens, I no longer immediately blame the team. Instead, I ask: Is the entire sector falling, or is this coin alone dropping? Are there large token unlocks? Are whales exiting, or is there concentrated selling pressure on exchanges? Are users, TVL, and revenue also declining? Is the codebase and product still being updated? If the price drops but business metrics are growing, it might be an overreaction. If the price rises but users and revenue stay flat, with unlocks looming overhead, it’s more likely someone is setting up an exit strategy. What’s truly dangerous isn’t a drop in price. It’s when the project’s data is already collapsing—and you’re still using “value investing” to fool yourself. What’s truly tempting isn’t necessarily a price surge. Sometimes that big green candle is just the manipulator making the entrance for the next buyer look brighter. So now when someone asks me: “This coin has dropped so much—should I buy?” I don’t first check how far it’s fallen from its peak. I first ask: What gives it a reason to survive? Price is market sentiment. Data is the project’s testimony.
