AIS can tell you where a vessel is but knowing its location is not the same as knowing what is happening around it that distinction is what keeps making @EthraShip interesting to me SeaVerity is adding another layer by allowing people with compatible Android phones to contribute observations from the ground a photo can be connected to a location and then checked against other reports before becoming useful network data i think that is where the idea gets more interesting a vessel can be showing a particular position on AIS, but that signal alone cannot tell you whether a berth is blocked, whether there is congestion around the port, or what activity is actually happening on the ground those details matter when maritime information is being used for real decisions and the interesting part is that the network does not need everyone carrying specialized equipment the phone people already have can become a way of adding context to existing maritime data that changes how i look at the whole idea instead of relying on one source to tell the full story, SeaVerity can bring different observations together and give that maritime data more context i’ll be watching how the public alpha develops because the real test is not how much data the network can collect it is whether those observations can make maritime information more useful and easier to verify
