Why is volume decreasing while the price continues to rise? When I first entered the market, I simplistically assumed that price increases meant strong buying pressure—the faster it rose, the more people were bullish. Later, I learned that price rises don’t always require many buyers; sometimes, they only need few sellers. At the end of a bear market or during weekend trading, liquidity is thin—small amounts of capital can push prices sharply higher. The K-lines appear strong, and gainers lists look lively, but this kind of rally resembles an elevator suddenly ascending: few people inside, yet moving fast. I used to be most tempted to chase in during these moments. Seeing consecutive bullish candles, I thought big players were accumulating. But when real large capital finally looked to exit, there was no buying depth to absorb it—the rally took three days, but the drop back came in just half an hour. To judge whether a market move is healthy, you can’t just look at price gains—you must also ask: Is volume sustaining? Is spot trading driving the move? Is there solid support during pullbacks? If price hits new highs while volume shrinks, yet open interest and funding rates surge rapidly, it’s rarely a sign of growing consensus—it’s more likely leverage artificially propping up the price. Low liquidity can create beautiful rallies, but it cannot support large-scale position exits. Remember: Declining volume during a price rise means sellers are temporarily scarce—not that more buyers are genuinely willing to step in at higher levels.
