The killer feature for any self-custody setup would be to bundle specie insurance with it. A hardware wallet with zero or few customizations available would be best positioned to partner with an insurer to underwrite that kind of coverage for the mass market. It would also have the added benefit of forcing a lot of self-custody folks to have secure setups, since the insurer would demand, just like how homeowners insurance requires you to clear brush in wildfire zones and have deadbolts on external doors.
