Over 1,000 BTC evaporated in just 40 minutes! A critical security vulnerability discovered in certain versions of the Bitcoin-focused hardware wallet Coldcard led to a theft of approximately $70 million in Bitcoin. According to Galaxy Research, the attacker exploited a weak randomization method used by the devices when generating Bitcoin wallets, enabling them to offline-guess potential private keys without physical access to the devices. On July 30, over 1,000 BTC were stolen from approximately 1,196 wallets in just 41 minutes. Researchers noted that the attacker could continue scanning other vulnerable wallets using the same method.
