Weak hardware wallets weren’t “hacked” over the internet. The problem was much deeper: poor randomness during seed generation. If your recovery seed isn’t truly random, an attacker may eventually be able to recreate it, derive your private keys, and spend your Bitcoin—without ever touching your device. How to protect yourself: • Update your hardware wallet firmware. • If your seed was created on affected firmware, move your BTC to a new wallet with a newly generated seed. • Add your own entropy (e.g. dice rolls) when supported. • Use a strong BIP-39 passphrase (“25th word”) for an extra layer of security. • Never share or digitally store your recovery seed. The lesson: an air-gapped device is only as secure as the randomness used to create its keys.
