Energy Secretary Wright just made the new data center divide explicit: “Blue states have 50% higher electricity prices than red states… places that develop data centers, those are the places that will see electricity prices go down, not up.” The message isn’t just about colors on a map. It’s about who builds capacity and invites large, long‑term industrial customers (AI data centers, nuclear campuses) to spread fixed grid costs, and who layers mandates and constraints on top of already scarce power. In this regime, the jurisdictions that add cheap baseload and welcome data centers get lower bills and more growth. The ones that fight both get higher prices and less compute.
