https://t.co/iGyS0eNbhP Ambassador Amorim, Special Advisor to the President of Brazil: "Funding for wars is taken from development." Celso Amorim, Special Advisor to Brazilian President Lula da Silva, stated that peace and development are inseparable—they require each other to succeed—in an interview with Dennis Small of EIR on July 24, 2026. He discussed how wars around the world harm the global economy by diverting funds away from healthcare, infrastructure, and other critically needed investments, particularly in developing nations, while simultaneously driving up the costs of essential commodities such as fuel and fertilizers. Regarding the growing danger of nuclear war, Amorim emphasized Brazil’s long-standing commitment to nuclear disarmament for all nations, without distinction. Brazil seeks to maintain respectful relations with all countries—China, the United States, India, among others—and to establish pragmatic cooperation on economic projects despite differences. This is why Brazil advocates for a multipolar world, as evidenced by its participation in groups such as BRICS. It is also why Brazil promotes South American integration. With neighbors like Peru, South America can achieve in the 21st century what the United States accomplished in the 19th: establishing a vital connection between the Atlantic and the Pacific. Is such a world possible? Amorim insisted: "If you don’t believe in the future, what is the point of life? For our children and our grandchildren, and for the children of others..." Brazil, a founding member of BRICS, is the largest country in South America by both population and territory. Amorim, currently Special Advisor to the President, previously served as Minister of Foreign Affairs during Lula da Silva’s first two terms (2003–2010) and as Minister of Defense under President Dilma Rousseff from 2011 to 2013.
