🚨🇫🇷 Eight months before the presidential election, cryptocurrency has entered the campaign through the worst possible door: the hacking of Marine Le Pen’s X account. On Tuesday evening, the candidate’s account displayed for a few minutes a post in English, urging users to invest in a fake LEPEN token, wrapped in patriotic branding. The message was quickly removed but was widely captured and shared. Meanwhile, the National Rally’s website was defaced, and the party reported a server intrusion attributed to a weak password used by a candidate in local elections. The modus operandi is now well-established: - Create a token in minutes on a launchpad - Compromise a highly followed account and post a buy call - Immediately sell off holdings as soon as the first victims purchase, before the price collapses The Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office has enlisted the Cybercrime Brigade. Precedents are plentiful: Kylian Mbappé in 2024, UK minister Lucy Powell in 2025, and even the SEC, whose account once posted a fake approval of a Bitcoin ETF.
