Pakistan adopts dynamic oil pricing mechanism Oil prices will be reviewed on a daily basis Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik told journalists that the increase in fuel prices is linked in large part to the fact that Pakistan meets most of its oil requirements through imports paid for in US dollars. With global diesel prices rising from around US$110 to nearly US$140 per barrel, an increase in Pakistan’s import costs was unavoidable. They said further that the government is making the fuel pricing system more transparent. OGRA will review fuel prices on a daily basis and publish the complete pricing calculation, including international benchmarks, on its website. This will enable the public to see how changes in global prices affect pump prices in Pakistan Rather than immediately passing on the full impact of rising international prices to consumers, the government absorbed approximately Rs129 billion of the additional cost. Targeted subsidy programmes remain in place for motorcycle users, farmers, public transport, and low-income households At the peak of the crisis, the government arranged oil imports through alternative routes, secured additional cargoes from different countries, and built strategic reserves. As a result, Pakistan did not experience a single day of fuel shortages, rationing, or supply disruptions At present, the petroleum levy is below its pre-war level
