🚨JUST IN: Bithumb recently experienced a system glitch that resulted in 620,000 "virtual" $BTC being recorded and distributed despite not existing on the blockchain. The exchange actually only held 175 $BTC and 42,619 BTC belonging to clients, but the ledger processed the fake coins as real. South Korean authorities are calling this a serious structural error, not an individual mistake, and are conducting on-site investigations and imposing penalties.
