This is a very important point. The PhD should be reserved for acquiring rare knowledge and developing the ability to see scientific frontiers that no one else can see. Its purpose should be to create people capable of asking questions and producing knowledge that do not yet exist in textbooks or AI training data. If AI can readily teach and assess everything a program offers, that program has no reason to consume five years of someone’s life. The PhD should begin where the capacity of AI ends. If there is no such boundary, there is no reason to have a PhD.
