Today’s @unusual_whales stream was really all about the education side of reading flow in real time. A few things we broke down: • Why ask side does NOT automatically mean buy and bid side does NOT automatically mean sell • How IV, spot movement and the actual tape can completely change the read • Why open interest is so important for figuring out whether a trade is actually opening • How multi leg activity, earnings overlap, expiration and distance OTM can make otherwise “good looking” flow something I’ll pass on • Why being selective matters. Out of almost everything that hit the tape today, only a handful of pieces were clean enough for me to actually alert $AAPL was a great example of a cleaner read: big volume versus OI, IV rising and fills staying around the ask. Then we had names like $NEM and $SMCI where the tape looked much more questionable once you actually dug into it. This is the stuff I think matters way more than just seeing “ASK” and assuming bullish.
