As reported by HashNews, ZKsync announced on Sunday that it plans to discontinue ZKsync Lite (formerly ZKsync 1.0) at some point next year. The system, launched in 2020 on Ethereum as the original zero-knowledge Rollup solution, will be phased out in an orderly manner, with no impact on other ZKsync systems. The team will reveal specific details, dates, and migration guidelines in 2025. Despite daily transaction volumes now below 200, approximately $650 million in user funds remains on the network. ZKsync emphasized that withdrawals to L1 will remain functional and that the shutdown will not affect other products. Matter Labs, the company behind ZKsync, launched the full-featured zkEVM, ZKsync Era, in March 2023, after which active development on ZKsync Lite ceased. The team will now focus on systems built on the ZK Stack, Prividiums, and the broader ZKsync network.
