Elon Musk’s social platform X has relaunched its Android app. The company stated that this version, which took nearly a year to rebuild, is not a minor update to the previous version but a complete ground-up development focused on improving core experiences such as loading, scrolling, and notifications.

First, address the shortcomings on the Android platform.

The new version is now live on Google Play. The head of the X engineering team stated that this is one of the largest engineering projects in the company's history. According to the company, the redesigned Android app runs faster, smoother, and more stably, and the pace of future feature releases will also improve as a result.

For some time, X’s Android version has lagged behind its iOS counterpart. Reports noted that the Android app previously suffered severe issues, with users unable to properly load post content after clicking links. This has placed additional pressure on the platform in overseas markets where Android users dominate.

Restructured for easier addition of new items

For X, this decision to completely rewrite the Android app has one core goal: addressing long-standing performance issues and narrowing the experience gap with the iOS version. For X, this is not just a product update—it’s critical to user retention and new downloads.

The company said the new architecture will help the team roll out new features faster. Over the past few months, X has launched several new products, including the payment service X Money and the messaging product X Chat, both of which were previously available as standalone apps.
