BlockBeats report, March 19: Visa’s Crypto Labs has released a command-line interface (CLI) tool that enables AI agents to initiate automated payments directly from the terminal, enabling programmatic transactions with no human intervention.
This tool enables payment capabilities for automation workflows such as bots and scripts, without requiring API key management—it can be used directly to purchase cloud resources, call API services, and execute machine-to-machine payments. The product is currently in testing and requires a GitHub account to request access.
Visa states that as AI evolves from "answering questions" to "executing tasks"—such as automated procurement of computing power, service invocation, and micropayments—payment infrastructure must be upgraded to support "command-line commerce."
In addition, Visa has integrated the Machine Payment Protocol (MPP) and is collaborating with AI payment standards championed by industry players such as Coinbase and Cloudflare to accelerate the development of an AI-native payment ecosystem.
