As reported by RBC, an unknown cryptocurrency user mistakenly paid nearly 1 BTC (about $105,000) in fees to send a $10 Bitcoin transaction. The transaction, included in block 923023 mined by MARA, had a fee of 1.029 BTC, far exceeding typical amounts. The sender paid 0.9999 BTC in fees to transfer just 0.00010036 BTC. Currently, Bitcoin network fees are at a historical low, with the average under $1 even for high-priority transactions. It remains unclear whether MARA will refund the user. In December 2024, Foundry USA Pool returned 8.18 BTC in fees to a user, and in November 2023, Antpool returned 83.65 BTC in fees for a single transaction.
