According to TechFlow, on November 30, U.S. SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce stated in a podcast interview that self-custody of crypto assets and financial privacy are fundamental human rights. She questioned the necessity of requiring individuals to store their assets through third parties, emphasizing that people should have the right to manage their own assets. Her comments come amid the delay of the CLARITY Act to 2026, which originally aimed to address self-custody rights, AML rules, and asset classification. Meanwhile, as multiple crypto ETFs launch, some large holders are shifting from self-custody to ETFs for tax benefits and convenience, raising concerns about the erosion of the 'wallet as sovereignty' principle.
