ChainThink reports that on March 22, according to Bloomberg, a lawsuit filed by Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, against his sister alleging sexual abuse was dismissed. U.S. District Judge Zachary Bluestone in Missouri ruled on Friday that the claims were time-barred due to the lengthy passage of time since the alleged incidents occurred, rendering the lawsuit "out of statute." However, the judge indicated that Ann Altman may amend and resubmit her complaint.
His lawyer, Ryan Mahoney, stated: “The court’s ruling addresses only procedural matters and does not affect the substance of the charges.” He added that the court has permitted the filing of an amended complaint, and the team will complete it as soon as possible and proceed with discovery as planned. Sam Altman’s legal representatives declined to comment.
In January 2025, Ann Altman alleged that during their upbringing in Missouri in the late 1990s and early 2000s, Sam Altman subjected her to abuse and manipulation. She stated that the behavior began when she was three years old and last occurred while she was still a minor. In response, Sam Altman issued a statement on behalf of himself, his mother, and his brother, calling the allegations “completely false.”
In March 2025, while denying the allegations, Sam Altman filed a defamation lawsuit against his sister, claiming her "false statements" damaged his reputation and caused emotional harm. His attorney also stated that her lawsuit was filed "for the improper purpose of pressuring him to provide unlimited financial support." In this ruling, the judge allowed Sam Altman to proceed with his defamation lawsuit.
