ChainThink reports that on March 13, the TRON community officially launched a discussion on a proposal to enable new features in version 4.8.1, aiming to adjust the execution behavior and cost of the SELFDESTRUCT instruction in the TRON Virtual Machine (TVM) to further enhance compatibility with Ethereum's EIP-6780.
Under the current proposal, if the feature is ultimately enabled, the SELFDESTRUCT instruction will only delete a contract when called within the same transaction that created it; in all other cases, it will only transfer the contract’s assets without deleting the contract. Additionally, the gas cost of this instruction will be adjusted from 0 to 5000.
Currently, this proposal is in the community discussion phase. The TRON developer community is discussing issues such as functional impact, launch timeline, and ecosystem compatibility, and will decide whether to officially enable the feature based on community consensus.
TRON also encourages developers to actively participate in discussions and advises those using the SELFDESTRUCT instruction to monitor the proposal's progress and prepare for compatibility updates in advance.
