On January 2, PANews reported that according to The Block, Ari Redbord, the global policy and government affairs lead at crypto analytics firm TRM Labs, stated that 2025 was a record year for "wrench attacks," with approximately 60 physical attacks targeting cryptocurrency holders. Ari Redbord added, "The actual number is likely much higher. Many cases are only recorded as robberies or burglaries, ignoring the cryptocurrency aspect; some cases are never reported at all because victims are hesitant or unsure how law enforcement will handle cryptocurrency-related crimes." In comparison, about 41 wrench attacks were recorded in 2024, and around 36 were recorded in 2021.
