Odaily Planet Daily report: Data shows that South Korean retail investors heavily bought 14 single-stock leveraged ETFs on the 24th, with a daily purchase volume of approximately KRW 450 billion. Previously, retail investors had net sold approximately KRW 500 billion over three consecutive days. According to data from the Korea Exchange and Koscom Check, as of July 26, retail investors had net sold KRW 547.17138 billion across 14 single-stock leveraged products from July 21 to 23. This trend completely reversed on July 24. In just one day, individual investors net purchased seven leveraged ETFs tied to Samsung Electronics, with a net buying amount of KRW 103.8959 billion, and also net purchased seven leveraged ETFs tied to SK Hynix, with a net buying amount of KRW 350.02688 billion.
Notably, this net buying occurred on Black Friday, when the KOSPI index fell more than 5%, and both Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix closed down 7% to 8%. As a result, single-stock leveraged ETFs tracking these two companies also plunged 15% to 16%. Analysts believe that the sharp decline in single-stock leveraged ETF prices attracted some investors to buy at lower levels. Additionally, as a new regulation raising minimum margin requirements takes effect on the 31st, some retail investors may have sought to increase their positions through dollar-cost averaging before the regulatory tightening, driving demand for these products.
