Citing BlockTempo, Sony Bank plans to launch a USD-pegged stablecoin in 2026 to enable cryptocurrency payments for PlayStation games, subscriptions, and anime content. The initiative, backed by a $14.6 million investment led by Coinbase Ventures, faces opposition from the American Bankers Association. Sony aims to reduce payment fees and expand its Web3 ecosystem, having previously partnered with Circle to introduce USDC in Singapore.
