Citing Crypto.News, the founders of Samourai Wallet, William Lonergan Hill and Keonne Rodriguez, could receive up to five years in prison for their roles in operating an unlicensed money transmitting service. Prosecutors allege the pair marketed the wallet to darknet users and earned over $6.3 million in fees from illicit activity. A sentencing memorandum filed with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York claims the founders actively encouraged criminals to use the platform for money laundering and sanctions evasion. Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 6 for Rodriguez and Nov. 7 for Hill.
