PANews, February 25: According to Axios, the U.S. Department of Defense has reached an agreement with Elon Musk’s xAI, permitting its large model Grok to access classified systems used for the most sensitive intelligence, weapons development, and battlefield operations, and to support “all lawful uses” as required by the Pentagon. Previously, Anthropic’s Claude was the only model available in this system, but it faces potential penalties, including being labeled a “supply chain risk,” for refusing to allow use in mass surveillance of Americans and the development of fully autonomous weapons. The report indicates that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth will issue a final ultimatum to Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, while the Pentagon is accelerating negotiations with Google Gemini and OpenAI regarding access to classified systems and the “all lawful uses” clause.
