OpenRouter Launches Reranking Models to Enhance RAG Efficiency

ME News reports that on April 15 (UTC+8), according to monitoring by Beating, the AI model aggregation platform OpenRouter has added a new category of reranking models, initially integrating three models from Cohere, all currently priced at $0. Reranking is a critical step in the RAG pipeline: after vector search retrieves relevant fragments from a knowledge base, reranking models precisely reorder them by relevance, filtering out noise to ensure the large model receives the most valuable context. The three models serve different purposes: 1. Rerank 4 Pro: highest accuracy (SOTA), 32K context window 2. Rerank 4 Fast: lowest latency, 32K context window 3. Rerank v3.5: supports multidimensional and semi-structured data ranking, 4K context window All three support over 100 languages, require no data preprocessing, and are accessible via a unified /api/v1/rerank endpoint. Previously, OpenRouter aggregated five model categories—text, image, embedding, audio, and video—making reranking its sixth added category.
