Derived from 币界网, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman's digital identity project World (formerly Worldcoin) is encountering regulatory challenges in Thailand. Thai authorities, including the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Cybercrime Investigation Bureau (CCIB), conducted raids on iris-scanning facilities linked to the platform, targeting locations associated with the 'WLD trading service.' The SEC announced the operation on Friday, expressing concerns that WLD trading service providers may be operating without the necessary licenses, violating local digital asset regulations. World claims it only issues WLD tokens in jurisdictions where such activities are permitted, with eligibility based on location, age, and other criteria. The platform disclaims responsibility for the availability of WLD tokens on third-party platforms. Cointelegraph reached out to World's developer Tools of Humanity for comment but has not received a response.
