AIMPACT News, according to monitoring by Beating, OpenAI’s AI agent product Codex has introduced a locked-screen control feature, enabling users to remotely and securely take over and operate computer software via mobile devices while the Mac is locked and the screen is black. To enable secure remote management during lock state, Codex integrates an Apple-authorized low-level accessibility plugin into the macOS system, deeply embedding itself into the system-level unlock process. When a control request is initiated from a mobile device, this plugin silently and temporarily unlocks the system in the background to run the target application. During this time, all local physical keyboard and mouse inputs are completely blocked, and a pure black overlay is projected across all connected displays, physically “blinding” the local screen to ensure the computer’s appearance remains blacked out and locked. This background automatic unlock channel is subject to extremely strict security boundaries—it activates only during brief, securely authenticated control periods initiated from the mobile device, and cannot be accessed by any other local software or third-party processes. If the system detects any physical keyboard or mouse input during operation, it immediately triggers an alert, revokes the background unlock state, reactivates the lock screen, and halts all automated actions until the user manually unlocks the device on-site. Additionally, for enhanced privilege escalation protection, this mechanism functions as a restricted “invisible sandbox”: it cannot take control of Terminal applications, cannot interfere with Codex itself, and cannot autonomously execute sudo commands or approve system privacy and security prompts. OpenAI's Codex introduces black screen lock feature for enhanced security
KuCoinFlashShare

OpenAI's Codex introduces a black screen lock feature to mitigate security breach risks. Built on MetaEra, the tool enables users to remotely control locked Macs through an Apple-authorized plugin. A black overlay prevents visual access, and the system locks if any physical input is detected. The feature operates within a sandbox, restricting access to the terminal or elevated privileges. On-chain news indicates an increasing focus on secure remote access solutions.
