Competitor Anthropic also opened an office in Washington in April this year, with its lobbying spending increasing tenfold year-over-year to $3 million last year. Meanwhile, Meta, Nvidia, and Alphabet collectively spent $47.8 million on lobbying last year, a 22% increase from the previous year. According to the citizen oversight group Public Citizen, one-quarter of all federal lobbyists in Washington are now involved in AI-related issues, up significantly from 11% in 2023.
