Odaily Planet Daily reports that, according to official news from OpenAI, OpenAI and Amazon have announced a multi-year strategic partnership. Amazon will invest $50 billion in OpenAI, with an initial investment of $15 billion, and the remaining $35 billion to be completed over the coming months upon fulfillment of specific conditions.
The two parties will jointly develop a stateful runtime environment powered by OpenAI models, which will be made available to AWS customers through Amazon Bedrock and is expected to launch in the coming months. AWS will become the exclusive third-party cloud distributor of the OpenAI Frontier platform, enabling enterprises to build, deploy, and manage teams of AI agents.
In terms of infrastructure, the two parties are expanding their existing multi-year agreement by $100 billion, extending the term to eight years. OpenAI has committed to utilizing approximately 2 gigawatts of Trainium compute power through AWS infrastructure, covering both Trainium3 and the next-generation Trainium4 chips, expected to begin delivery in 2027.
In addition, OpenAI and Amazon will collaborate to develop customized models for Amazon developers to use in consumer-facing applications, complementing Amazon’s existing Nova series of models.
