Meta has launched the Model Capability Initiative (MCI) tool to track keystrokes and mouse activity in the U.S., leveraging on-chain data to enhance AI agents for work automation. The tool captures screenshots and inputs only from work applications. Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth stated that the project, now named the Agent Transformation Accelerator (ATA), aims to transition primary tasks to AI while employees monitor them. A spokesperson confirmed that MCI data will not influence performance reviews and excludes sensitive content. Meta plans a 10% global workforce reduction beginning May 20. The Applied AI team is already assuming responsibility for product development, with engineers transitioning to the unit. Altcoins to watch may respond to AI-driven corporate changes.

ME News reports that on April 22 (UTC+8), according to monitoring by Beating, Meta has begun installing tracking software called "Model Capability Initiative" (MCI) on the computers of its U.S. employees. MCI collects mouse movements, clicks, keyboard inputs, and periodic screenshots to train AI agents capable of autonomously completing work tasks. The tool operates only on work-related applications and websites. Internal memos from Meta’s SuperIntelligence Labs team indicate that MCI is primarily designed to address gaps in the model’s ability to handle human-computer interactions such as dropdown menu selections and keyboard shortcuts, allowing employees to improve the model through their daily work. In another memo, Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth stated that the company’s “AI for Work” project has been renamed “Agent Transformation Accelerator” (ATA), with the goal of having AI agents take on primary work responsibilities while employees focus on guiding, reviewing, and refining them. Meta spokesperson Andy Stone said that MCI data will not be used for performance evaluations and that safeguards are in place for “sensitive content,” though he did not specify which data types are excluded. Meta plans to initiate a 10% global workforce reduction on May 20, with additional large-scale layoffs expected in the second half of the year. Last month, the company established a new Applied AI (AAI) engineering team tasked with having AI agents handle most of the future product development, testing, and deployment; this month, it has already begun transferring key engineers to AAI.
