According to the New York Times, Meta CEO Zuckerberg stated in July last year that his company’s new AI model would be launched within about a year. However, according to three informed sources, Zuckerberg now appears to be struggling to meet that deadline. The sources said that Meta’s months-long development of its next-generation “frontier” AI model has not yet matched the performance of leading AI models from competitors such as Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic in internal tests evaluating reasoning, programming, and writing capabilities. Two sources revealed that the model, codenamed “Avocado,” outperforms Meta’s previous AI models but still falls short of Google’s Gemini 3.0, released in November last year. As a result, Meta has delayed the release of “Avocado” from this month to at least May. (Jinshi Data)

Meta has delayed the launch of its new AI model, codenamed "Avocado," from this month to at least May. Internal tests revealed that the model underperformed compared to leading AI models from Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic. Although "Avocado" represents an improvement over Meta’s previous models, it still trails behind Google’s "Gemini 3.0," which was launched in November 2025. The delay occurs amid ongoing developments in AI and crypto, with new token listings also attracting attention from investors and developers.
