Odaily Planet Daily report: According to internal memos and media reports, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg told employees that the company "made some mistakes" during its AI-driven organizational transformation and expects similar issues to arise in the future.
Zuckerberg noted that Meta is investing hundreds of billions of dollars in artificial intelligence to reshape its core business structure, but the rapid evolution of AI technology has brought significant challenges in organizational change, including missteps during certain personnel adjustments and restructuring. He emphasized that the company will strive to provide greater organizational stability in the future and expects no large-scale layoffs this year.
During this restructuring, Meta made significant adjustments in May, including approximately 10% global workforce reductions and transferring around 7,000 employees to AI-related projects. Zuckerberg stated that some of the affected employees will be reassigned to roles related to model training and AI workflows to minimize organizational disruption. He also mentioned that the company will increase investment in team building, including higher budgets for external meetings and collaboration, and plans to host a large-scale hackathon in July to foster collaborative development of AI projects.
In addition, Meta has recognized issues arising from the expansion of management responsibilities and plans to streamline its management structure. The newly established Applied AI Engineering department has been revealed to adopt a highly flat structure, with employee-to-manager ratios as high as 50:1 in some teams. Meta has not provided further comment on the internal memo. (Reuters)
