Experimental data shows that, on the LOCOMO benchmark, Mem0’s response accuracy is 26% higher than OpenAI’s built-in memory functionality. Additionally, due to its “fact-based” retrieval mechanism, Mem0 reduces P95 inference latency by 91% and cuts token consumption by 90%. This algorithm addresses the core issue of AI agents’ “forgetfulness” during prolonged interactions. Unlike the brute-force approach of simply expanding LLM context windows, Mem0 employs a two-stage pipeline: during the “extraction phase,” the system extracts key facts from the latest conversation, rolling summaries, and historical records; during the “update phase,” it compares these facts against a vector database to perform operations such as adding, updating, deleting conflicting entries, or ignoring them, ensuring the memory repository remains concise and consistent. The study also introduces an enhanced variant, Mem0ᵍ, which incorporates a graph database structure to transform extracted facts into labeled nodes and edges, thereby capturing complex entity relationships across multiple sessions. In real-world production environments, Mem0 completes the full process—from memory retrieval to response generation—in just 0.71 seconds, whereas traditional “full-context” methods require nearly 10 seconds.
