In accordance with Blockchainreporter, Mastercard has selected Polygon as the first blockchain network to expand its Mastercard Crypto Credential into self-custody wallets. The initiative introduces username-style, verified transfers that replace complex wallet addresses with simple, human-readable aliases. Verified users can now link a username-style alias to a self-custody wallet and receive assets using only that alias. The process involves one-time verification with Mercuryo, linking the wallet, and optionally minting a soulbound credential on Polygon. This allows users to maintain full control over their wallets while benefiting from a trusted verification layer. The initial rollout focuses on receiving via verified aliases, with sending functionality to follow. Polygon's infrastructure supports fast, low-cost, and scalable transactions, aligning with Mastercard's requirements for global payment networks. The move aims to enhance usability and reduce friction in self-custody adoption by making crypto interactions more familiar and user-friendly.
